Ingredients:

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 cup elbow macaroni
  • 1 can condensed tomato soup
  • 1 can cream of mushroom soup
  • 1/4 cup onion, diced
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 & 1/2 cups cheddar or colby-jack cheese, shredded

Seasonings:

  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Famous Dave's® Steak & Burger seasoning

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Lightly grease a 2-3 quart casserole dish. Set aside.
  2. Bring a pot of salted water to boil. Add the pasta and cook until al dente, following the package instructions. When just fork tender, drain the pasta.
  3. Cook ground beef on medium-high heat until halfway browned.
  4. Season meat with Famous Dave's® Steak & Burger seasoning. Add onion and continue cooking until the onion is soft and the beef thoroughly browned. Turn off heat.
  5. Drain fat and return the beef to the pan. Add the garlic powder and soups. Slowly mix in the cooked pasta and milk, folding to combine. Add 1/2 cup of cheese, stirring to incorporate.
  6. Transfer the mixture to the greased casserole dish. Cover and bake for 20 minutes.
  7. Remove from the oven and top with the remaining 1 cup of cheese.
  8. Return to the oven, baking an additional 10 minutes uncovered or until the cheese is melted and golden.

Notes from Jolene:

Pairs well with green beans and garlic toast. Fun Fact: I was 52 years old when I discovered that this recipe is affectionately referred to as "American Chop Suey." Who knew?! I like to think of it as homemade Hamburger Helper®.
